Afloat
A fledgling, I tumbled out of my shell..
Eyes barely open, trying to make sense of the world.
My chirping, my wobbly walk a sight to see,
Filled my parent's eyes with glee..
Step by Step as I grew up,
the world seemed a lot different..
Not all was as was taught to me,
not all was as it seemed.
Eagles and vultures, the predators,
lurked in the grab of well-wishers.
Oh! The stories they weaved and the dramas they enacted and created.
What does a fledgling understand and what could I say...
Horror and shame, a feeling that things were not as they seemed,
was all I felt along the way.
The wings were singed, the flights clipped,
a bird with broken wings sans repair.
Still, I strived to take that flight..
Fumbling and faltering along the way.
Giving up was not a choice, not a moment from my goals I swayed.
These vultures marred a childhood, leaving scars so deep.
Like those dark clouds that suddenly cover the sun though momentarily,
such a life I lead..
The clouds tried their best to engulf me in darkness, but somehow like lightning,
I pierced through that darkness.
Today as I soar high above the clouds,
those rumbling moments of doubt come.
Like a drowning man, I just grapple and hold on to every twig,
to stay afloat..
